Philips CD burner writes but wont read???

Only 6 months old. 40x. Burns the cds great - my cds play on anything except itself. It gives me a "verification failed" note at the end of each burn, but the disc works fine on everything else. It seems to have no problem with say a new program when installing, but stick a music cd into it and it has trouble reading it. The worst part is that I cant get my back-up PT sessions back onto my hard-drive when I want to work with it again - even though I can put the files onto my other computers fine. All the drivers are up to date. it worked well when I got it. Do you think I just got a lemon? Any ideas?
