Problem with sidechaining the kick to bass?

After sidechaining, the bass started to distort and clip. And it sounded very weird and kinda pitch shifted. What's the problem and how do I solve it?

Are you using midi on both tracks? If you are, it sounds like you just need to set 'MIDI: None' in the routing window when sending the audio signal to your bass track, otherwise the midi notes that are triggering your kick will also be sent to your bass track and adding those extra notes to your bassline.

What are your compressor settings like? Too extreme settings can cause distortion. Especially a very fast release time could be problematic. Edit: Other things to check would be whether any other plugins in the audio chain could be reacting to the signal on whichever channel your sidechain signal is on.
