Hi, Don't all rush! :) Well, had a look at a 960 dash which looks pretty similar today in Salvo... And yes, worst nightmares confirmed.. So, reconsidering this, is it possible to "go round" the problem and replace bulbs by leaving the instrument panel in situ and working from the back?? Basically to "go round" from underneath..? Des. . . ;)

Adamsky has given you the basics. You prob know this already, but to be sure, DON'T FORGET TO PULL THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FIRST!!! Once you get the black bezell (the surround??) off, you'll need to undo the 4 torx screws in the corners ( don't bother to try un-doing the two large torx screws that hold the metal clips on each side, it won't do you any good, the clips still won't come out. And, a magnetic driver comes in real handy to avoid loosing a torx bit or a screw in the dash frame) Once the 4 small screws are out, grip one of the upper corners (left works well because of the wire harness routing) close to the screw holes ( a pair of needle nose pliers works well for this, but be carefull to not break any of the plastic.) and gentley pull outwards. As you do this, you will most likely need to press in on the clip on that side to get the cluster out on that side. Once you get one side out, slide the cluster twoards oth side that is out and gentley work the whole cluster out towards the steering wheel. Since you are just replacing indicator lamps, you should have plenty of wiring harnes to roll the cluster around to get to the back. When you are done, and before you go to snap the cluster back in, it may be a good idea to wiggle the connectors (all but the speedo) and then reseat them to avoid another exercise in removal of the cluster (been there, done that, more than one or two times, yes, I'm an idiot, but I'm a knowledgable idiot). Alas, in response to your last query, no it isn't possible to go in the back way and access the indicator row, unless of course, your arms are about 3/4's of an inch in diameter and about eight feet long, and tou have about six or seven elbows......... (been there, tried that too,,,,, ouch, and had to remove the inst cluster to repair the damage..........) Good Luck, It's really a breeze once you've done it fifteen or twenty times.. best, Goat

Hi, Thanks both for the tips. Shame my arms are a bit thicker than that 3/4 inch!!! Will have a look tomorrow while cleaning up for the meet on Sunday.. Don't think I'll DO anything but look. Any discrepancy I'll post a photo or two.. I have removed 940 instrumentation before, no problem. This, though, looks nastier.. :) Des. . . ;)

Sorry chaps, but those descriptions are for the 940 cluster, not the 960/S/V90 cluster. Des, in addition to the two torx screws under the cover clips above the cluster itself are three more hidden above the air vents. The vents need to be angled upwards to get at these. Then there are two more hidden behind the switch trim panels. To get the drivers side one off is relatively straightforward - just lever the swtich panel out, but the pass side one is a pain because the panel extends down to the ashtray. You need to remove the radio to get at the two clips on either side in the radio mounting hole, and you need to remove the ashtray to get at the two torx screws that secure the panel at the bottom. Once these are undone you can lever out the panel at the top thus revealing the screw for the airvent/instrument surround. Be careful as the wood trim is fragile!!! Once the surround is off then you can get at the 4 torx screws that hold the cluster itself in. If you have any probs give me a call on 07915 543917 and I'll either pop over if I can or talk you through it.
