I Have a 960 2.5 manual estate, of 95 vintage. I have reason to believe my engine may be dying :( ! (that or paranoia) If I get hold of a similarly aged 3 Litre car, is it possible to swap the parts around and produce a 3 litre manual using my M90 gearbox? From what I have read, the physical block is identical, but I have been unable to answer this by digging around in the forums, and in vadis. I imagine someone will have tried it, and would be interested in any info/advice/problems.. As a conversion, bar sheer component weight & time, it looks easy, or am I missing something? Any info would be a help, before I start spending money! Cheers, Tony.

Hi, Rupert (V6Man) would be able to give you a more technical answer but putting an M90 onto the 3.0 is quite possible.. Putting a 3.0 engine into a car with a 2.5 and M90, will likely still be possibel but you'll need to pull the ECU for the engine over. Whether you'd need further wiring changes, I am not sure... However, the first question to ask would be what makes you think you have a dying engine?? What, exactly, is going wrong? Have you any codes etc?? Des. . . ;)

I'm not sure about this, but most likely if there is a gear ratio difference for these variations of the 960's the gear ratio difference would lie in the differential in the rear axel and not in the gear box. This info should be easily available on a tech spec.

well , the difference will be from auto to manual - 3.73 to 3.54 , but also the gear ratios will differ from 3 litre to 2.5 and from year to year IIRC .

Thats brilliant, and certainly answers most queries. I figured someone out there must have the same idea, if not already done the swap. I was driving around today and realised what a dumb question the propshaft length was, as it slowly dawned on me you wouldnt need to change it...doh! (hey, for me it was late!) I think you're right about the gear ratios tho, I can't ever remember getting to 60 in second. will have to make a conscious effort to try that. Normally short shift to third when trying hard. Will make an attempt and report back.
