noisy tappet when cold.

Yes they are hydraulic, and I believe your symptoms are quite common. There are numerous reports of engines not restarting after being run for a short period, ie to move car off a drive, because of the engine being turned off before the tappets have been fully charged with oil.

noisy valve 

an oil change might resolve your noisy valve, there is also a product produced by wynns it "hydraulic valve lifter treatment" which cleans the residue in the hydraulic valve lifters. this is a common problem on rover engines, and many fitters put half a bottle of redex in the oil. paul

Noisy Tappets 

how long does it take the wynns to do its job? and, after an oil and filter change its made no difference.but the noise does disappear when the engine is at normal temp, approx 5 mins of driving. are there varying degrees of tappet rattle? and do some people have tappet rattle all the time, thanks for your views guys!!

How can the wynns stuff work when you just pour it in the oil filler..i,ll tell you..it dosent its just a gimic. the only way is to strip and clean then refill the tappet.
